Read more Read more FAQ: Q: Why do I have microbubbles in my aquarium? A: Microbubbles may appear while your new protein skimmer is going through a “break-in” period. Protein skimmers need to build a slime coating inside the body and adjust to additives and chemicals that are in the aquarium water. - Q: When will the excess microbubbles disappear? A. Most people will see a gradual decrease in microbubbles day by day as the protein skimmer is adjusting. The microbubbles should go away between 7-10 days so please be patient. - Q: Should I turn on my protein skimmer during an aquarium cycle? A: No, do NOT turn on the skimmer during an aquarium cycle. Your tank needs to grow beneficial bacteria and the protein skimmer may slow down the process. You may leave the skimmer in the aquarium to help build a slime coat but do NOT plug in the skimmer pump until your cycle is complete. - Q: Can I use the skimmer in Freshwater? A: No, Protein skimmers are not designed for freshwater. The low density of freshwater will not produce the proper bubble size to work properly. - Q: Why do some people experience microbubbles while others don’t? A: Every aquarium is different in water chemistry, adding chemicals, bacteria, excess food, and even the oils from your hands can cause excess microbubbles. - Q: How do I adjust the skimmer? A: The skimmer can be adjusted by the hanger and fine-tuned by raising or lowering the collection cup. - Q: Why are there microbubbles escaping from under the collection cup? A. You may need to adjust the hanger so the body sits higher so microbubbles cannot escape. - Q: What is the wavy water line sticker on the skimmer body? A: This is the suggested water line for most aquariums. You may use this as a guideline but we recommend adjusting the hanger according to your specific aquarium. - Q: How often do I empty the collection cup? A: Most people empty 1-2 times a week. Please rinse the collection cup under tap water and replace.
