AffinityDNA Dog von Willebrand DNA Test for von Willebrand’s Disease Type I (vWD I) - Home Sample Collection Kit for 1 Canine - Dog von Willebrand Disease Testing
Product description von Willebrand’s Disease is the most common inherited bleeding disorder in canines. There are three classifications of vWD that are based on the concentration and nature of plasma von Willebrand Factor. Type I von Willebrand’s is characterized by abnormally low production of protein found in the vWF blood which is a key factor in the process of clotting a damaged blood vessel and is usually milder and more variable in form than the other types. vWD is inherited as an autosomal recessive disorder. Therefore, dogs that carry one (1) copy of the vWD mutation may exhibit a reduction in the amount of plasma vWF, but are not likely symptomatic. A carrier x carrier mating will likely produce some affected offspring. The DNA test is an accurate, convenient, and affordable tool to help breeders avoid producing vWD affected offspring and significantly reduce the gene frequency in future generations. DNA testing for von Willebrand’s Disease Type I is available for the following breeds: Bernese Mountain Dog, Coton de Tulear, Doberman Pinscher, Drentsche Patrijschond, German Pinscher, Goldendoodle, Kerry Blue Terrier, Labradoodle, Manchester Terrier, Papillion, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Poodle, Stabyhoun. The results confirm 1 of the 3 possible genotypes for the tested dog: CLEAR (those having 2 copies of the normal allele and appear to be normal). CARRIER (those having 1 copy of the normal allele and 1 copy of the vWD mutation but appear to be normal). AFFECTED (those having 2 copies of the vWD I mutation and are at risk of suffering a severe bleeding incident). Ingredients The DNA Sample Collection Kit Contains - 4 x sterile mouth swabs (all 4 for 1 dog), step-by-step sample collection instructions, registration form and return envelope. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Directions Hold the dog’s head firmly against your body with one hand. With the other hand, insert the swab into the dog’s mouth and place it against the inside surface of the cheek. Firmly rub the swab against the inside of the cheek, rotating the swab for about ten seconds. The objective is to collect loose cheek cells, NOT saliva. Please contact us with any questions. Legal Disclaimer Test results are based upon the specific von Willebrand’s Type I mutation (c.7437G>A). Clear results for vWD I only pertain to the specific mutation tested. It will not detect if a dog has any other form of bleeding disorder. This is not an ancestry test, breed test or parentage test. It is for von Willebrand’s Type I mutation only. See more
